BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Forvis Mazars is pleased to welcome Matthew Cannon as an assurance partner in Birmingham, serving clients in the financial services industry.
Prior to joining Forvis Mazars, Cannon led audit engagements for midsize and large public companies in the banking and capital markets sector with a large international public accounting firm. At Forvis Mazars, Cannon will leverage his previous experiences and primarily serve the firm’s SEC financial services industry.
Cannon’s 13 years in the SEC financial services industry have given him extensive experience in financial reporting, complex valuation techniques, regulatory matters, operational process flows, and SOX and FDICIA internal control risk assessment. His experience spans across various segments in financial services such operations, treasury, credit risk and internal audit. Cannon has also worked with clients on the application of many unique and complex accounting and financial concepts, along with specific experience leading audit teams through bank merger activities and initial registrations with the SEC as a public company, as well as public securities and debt offerings.

Cannon is a registered CPA in both Alabama and Georgia and a member of the AICPA. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a Master of Accountancy from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.
