Michael is the lead valuation managing director in Forvis Mazars’ DC Metro office, serving owners, fund managers, equity and tax-equity investors, boards of directors, corporate executives and officers, along with private-equity funds, business development companies (BDCs), real estate holding entities, and startup, middle-market, and mature companies.
He has more than 25 years of experience providing consulting and valuation services for financial reporting, tax compliance and planning, and transaction consulting purposes. Throughout his career, Michael has gained distinct valuation expertise in the areas of portfolio companies across many industries, complex financial instruments, debt securities, carried/promote ownership interests in multi-tier funds with complex capital structure, intangible assets, renewable energy deals, and real estate valuations with an emphasis on the technical issues and valuations underlying affordable housing, IRC Section 42 – Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), and IRC Section 47 – Historic Tax Credit (HTC). He has extensive experience in valuing minority and carried ownership interests in upper- and lower-tier real estate funds, holding companies, and partnerships owning, managing, and operating affordable housing/LIHTC/HTC properties, including business valuations of LIHTC syndicators, developers, and asset managers.
Michael is a member of the American Society of Appraisers, AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services, Northern Virginia Technology Council, Maryland Tech Council, and a regular contributor to SOLVE’s quarterly BDC webinars. In addition, he has published articles in Bloomberg Tax INSIGHT.
He is a licensed CPA in Maryland and Virginia and holds the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) certification from the American Institute of CPAs.
Michael is a graduate of University of Maryland, College Park, with a B.S. degree in finance and accounting and a B.A. degree in economics. He is also a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Washington, D.C., with an M.B.A. degree with a concentration in finance.
