Erik is a Forensics & Valuation service line partner and leads our U.S. Global Disputes Investigations and Valuations desk, coordinating and leading cross-border engagements with Forvis Mazars offices throughout the world. He has 30 years of experience serving clients across industry sectors. Prior to joining Forvis Mazars, Erik spent more than 15 years with another international accounting firm, where he served in several national and global leadership roles.

His work in business disputes and litigation includes serving as an expert witness, acting as a neutral arbitrator/accountant in numerous post-acquisition (purchase price) and other business disputes, and serving as a consulting expert. Recognized locally and nationally, he has testified in federal and state courts and at arbitration tribunals on behalf of clients including Fortune 500 corporations, federal agencies including the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and closely held businesses and individuals. He has testified regarding damages, business interruption insurance claims, fraud, GAAP, and other matters.

Erik’s experience also includes leading board and internal investigations of alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, False Claims Act, Physician Self-Referral Law (Stark Law), Anti-Kickback Statute, SEC financial reporting standards, and general fraud statutes. His investigations have led to financial restatements, settlements with regulators, criminal convictions, and successful recovery of losses from insurance carriers and perpetrators.

He speaks regularly to various professional organizations including presenting at the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Global Fraud Conference in 2021, 2022, and 2023. He recently co-authored an article on board-led internal investigations for Directorship® magazine and he has been quoted in The New Yorker, Charlotte Business Journal, and Accounting Today. He serves on the advisory board for the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences at University of New Haven and served on the American Institute of CPAs’ COVID-19 Damages Task Force. Erik is also a recipient of the Dr. D. Larry Crumbley Award for Outstanding Service by Pfeiffer University in connection with developing and teaching a master’s-level class on forensic accounting.

Erik is Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), a Certified Construction Auditor (CCA), a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

He is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with an M.B.A. degree, and a graduate of Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a B.S.B.A. degree.
