Tax Relief for California Wildfire Victims

The IRS has announced tax relief for victims of wildfires in Los Angeles County.

In response to the devasting wildfires in Los Angeles County that began on January 7, 2025, affected taxpayers have been offered relief by the IRS for certain tax filings and payments due in 2025.

Action Items and Important Dates

Federal individual and business tax filing and tax payment deadlines between January 7, 2025 and October 15, 2025 have been extended until October 15, 2025. Most imminent, the relief does apply to 2024 fourth quarter federal estimated tax payments due January 15, 2025. Other tax filing and payment relief includes 2025 deadlines for the following:

  • 2024 individual income tax returns.
  • 2024 contributions to IRAs and health savings accounts.
  • Quarterly estimated tax payments.
  • Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns.
  • Calendar year partnership, S corporation, corporation, fiduciary, and tax-exempt organization returns.
